What lies behind the door? Diriyah Doors exhibition will open the door to your cultural curiosity, inviting you to study and reflect on the ideas, symbolic meaning and legacy of Diriyah and the Najd region’s brightly colored, patterned, and engraved doors.

Nadji doors are considered one of most iconic architectural and artistic elements in the region. Curated by art historian Dr Eiman Eljibreen with renowned artist Ali Alruzaiza, this landmark exhibition aims to shed new light on these historical treasures and draw attention to Diriyah’s rich cultural heritage.

The exhibition displays doors loaned from private collectors, as well as newly commissioned Diriyah legacy-inspired artworks by some of the most significant artists in Diriyah and its diaspora, and an inspiring program of talks and workshops for the art-interested to the arts professional.

Join AlNahda Society in celebrating its 60th anniversary with a visit to 60@Sixty, a fascinating exhibition allowing a rare glimpse of 60 objects from the collection of Saudi artifacts held by Art of Heritage, a non-profit company and a pivotal project of the Society that aims to preserve Saudi heritage. The Collection comprises nearly 60,000 items that have been collected by the Society’s woman founders over the last forty years. They represent the arts, crafts, and material culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and range from jewelry, textiles and garments, ethnographic materials, furnishings, and wooden doors, to photographic materials, maps, books and manuscripts, printed ephemera and multimedia.

Held within Diriyah’s historical At-Turaif District, 60@Sixty reflects the historic precedence of Sibalat Modhi, a community charitable endowment established in the 18th century during the First Saudi State. The building historically served as a free dwelling where Diriyah visitors, the needy, and students of science congregated. Sibalat Modhi was created to honor the life and service of philanthropist Modhi bint Sultan Abu Wahtan, matriarch to the Al Saud family. It is thus befitting that AlNahda celebrates its diamond jubilee on the grounds historically associated with philanthropy by women for the community.

The 60th anniversary of AlNahda Society is an ode to the work and leadership of its founder and president, Her Royal Highness Princess Sara bint Faisal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud. Established in 1963, AlNahda Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women socially and economically to be active partners in the development  of Saudi Society.

A short drive from central Riyadh but a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Roots Cultural Basecamp encourages you to slow the pace, to recharge and reconnect with nature, as well as ignite your cultural curiosity.

CULTURAL CONCERTS SERIES

Cultural Concert Series

For architectural inspiration look no further than the Hassan Fathy Exhibition. Over the course of several months, the Royal Institute of Traditional Crafts (TRITA) and its traditional art apprenticeship program will construct a full-sized prototype of Fathy’s ‘Al Diriyah House’ using the same traditional building methods and materials.

Spectators are welcome to visit and observe the live build and, once complete, return for a major exhibition set within ‘Al Diriyah House’ showcasing the late architect’s extraordinary work.

As one of the leading architects of the twentieth-century, Hassan Fathy (Egypt, 1900-1989)’s work and vision have been a source of great inspiration for generations. Throughout his career, he embraced traditional, vernacular forms, techniques and materials, including adobe and traditional mud brick construction.

This exhibition is commissioned by Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Commission and is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Programme on Earthen Architecture (WHEAP).
