At-Turaif: a place of vision and beginnings
Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010, the historic district of At-Turaif overlooks Wadi Hanifah and the Diriyah oasis. Constructed from mudbrick in the Najdi style as a palatial royal citadel, this storied urban quarter became the capital of the Emirate of Diriyah or the First Saudi State (1727-1818), laying the foundations for what would eventually become the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
